What we'll cover

The blended course involves a mix of online pre-learning materials and in person practical.

Intro to Pilates (online).
We'll cover the background of Pilates, its core principles, what it is and what it isn't. This will give you a thorough understanding of the Pilates method before implementing it with clients.

The evidence and science behind Pilates (online). We'll take an in-depth look into the research behind Pilates, how it stacks up to other exercise options, and what conditions it is most effective for.

Reformer basics (in person). You'll learn how to use the Pilates reformer with a focus on key safety considerations. We'll teach you how to adjust the springs, footbar, straps and body position to tailor the workout to different clients and conditions.

Reformer Pilates repertoire (in person). You'll learn the key Reformer Pilates exercises, the relevant anatomy and when to prescribe each exercise for various musculoskeletal conditions. You'll have the opportunity to practice as the client and teacher, so you can learn from doing and instructing.

Programming for injuries and pain (online). Do you lack confidence when working with clients in pain? You'll learn how to choose the right sets, reps and weight for common conditions. We'll also work through various case studies so you know which exercises to apply to each injury.

Managing a group. Next up you'll learn how to run a Pilates class effectively. We'll cover how to demo an exercise, project your voice, alter your tone and provide feedback. Mastering these essentials is the difference between the good and great Pilates instructors.

Teaching Reformer Pilates (in person). This module is where we bring it all together. In small groups you'll get the opportunity to put what you've learnt into practice by running your classmates through a mini Reformer Pilates workout. Our students find this practical element the most beneficial part of the day.

Pilates session plans (in person). Finally, to ensure you can start implementing Pilates exercises straight away, you'll leave with an array of different session plans detailing the exact exercises we use with clients in the clinic.
