Cerebral Palsy

Did you know we work with CEREBRAL PALSY?

Picture
You may even have funding under your NDIS plan.
Our Exercises Physiologists can help tailor an exercise program to build strength, independence and function.
What Is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral Palsy is a congenital disorder of the development of movement and posture, affecting muscle coordination and body movements.
The Downward Spiral...
We often see de-conditioning with Cerebral Palsy where reduced movement leads to increased weight and decreased strength.
This makes movement even more challenging and thus this cycle continues. This can be broken by increasing physical activity with movements that are tailored to the individual.
What Does The Research Say?
There is strong evidence of the benefits of aerobic exercise for those with Cerebral Palsy.
20-30 minutes 5 days a week improves cardiovascular health and fitness.
How We Help...
At the Healesville Wellness Factory our Accredited Exercise Physiologists can help those with neurological conditions to get active and improve their movement and muscle control.
In an assessment we'll go through some movement tests.
We'll set up an exercise program that can be done at home if possible or with guidance in clinic, to restore muscle strength and function through exercise.
Am I Covered?
If you have a plan through the NDIS you could be covered for Exercise Physiology.
If you would like any further information please give us a call at The Healesville Wellness Factory on 5962 2697

Is strength training safe in cerebral palsy?

For individuals with spastic cerebral palsy you may well have concerns that strength exercises may make it worse.

In this video Exercise Physiologist Kelly Williams looks at the research.

This information may also be useful for other individuals with spasticity.
